Phantom Forest (new collab video)

I play the Viol and Kalimba on Phantom Forest (Final Fantasy VI), which was arranged by my good friend Truman Wilson for The Collab Playground. The video will be out on YouTube (below) this Sunday.

FF VI Phantom Forest

The (Bass) Viol is a renaissance instrument I picked up during the pandemic; it’s like a 6 or 7 string cello, with gut frets.

The Kalimba is an African instrument which consists or a wooden box and tins and it sounds a bit like a music box.

Strange Flower from Corpse Factory

I have finished the arrangement for Strange Flower from Corpse Factory by Alex Shea; it’s not an easy piece to play and I’m still practicing it most days; I will record the video when I feel I have mastered the piece well enough — I expect the video to come out during the month of September.

I have already recorded the audio for this (you can still find a preview here) and will record the video at some point next month ready to come out in October. The video edit is going to involve green screens and I fear rather involved! 😅

Renders of Strange Flower

I have completed the classical guitar arrangement for Strange Flower from Corpse Factory, composed by Alec Shea. It was really hard to get right mostly because we humans only have 4 usable fingers for fretting on the left hand 😅.

I expect the video and tabs to be out in a month or so.

In my usual fashion, and what I like to do occasionally is to provider a render of my arrangements in chip-tune format. I find that this particularly arrangement lends itself well to it.

If you can’t wait, you can grab the lead sheet and sing along on guitar or piano (or whatever else rocks your boat).

New: Lead sheet for Corpse Factory!

I absolutely love the title soundtrack of Corpse Factory, Strange Flower, composed by Alec Shea and with lyrics by Emi Evans; that name should sound familiar as Emi is of Nier and Drakengard fame, and you will definitely have heard her work before.

I am currently busy arranging it for fingerstyle classical guitar, as well as separately for viola da gamba; in the process I created this lead sheet which may be useful to anyone who wants to play and sing through the song on guitar or piano. Say hi and drop me a comment if you are going to use it for anything! And check out the rest of the soundtrack, Alec did a wonderful job with it!

⭐Dracula’s Castle (new Collab Playground video)

My new arrangement, Dracula’s Castle from Castlevania – Symphony of the Night, that I recorded with The Collab Playground is out!

This is a music theme originally composed by Michiru Yamane. Appropriately, it is heard in the first section of Dracula’s Castle, the Entrance. It came to be considered to be Alucard’s theme.

I have started to arrange the next piece which is The Last Dungeon from Wonderboy: The Dragon’s Trap.

The original 8-bit tunes are some of the most memorable from my childhood, but I’m in love with the re-orchestrated acoustic soundtrack by Michael Geyre (which is absolutely amazing, check it out!)

I am also finishing my Cowboy Bebop Tank! cover on classical guitars; the video edits are going to be taking a while longer as I am essentially doing a collab with myself…

Talking about collabs, I am putting the finishing touches to Dracula’s Castle from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for The Collab Playground, which should be coming out next Saturday, and Tarrey Town from The Legend of Zelda; Breath of the Wild for Sam Griffin’s YouTube channel – which involves 20 people, most of them classical guitarists. Then I’m focusing on arranging Spagonia from Sonic Unleashed as a day and night medley.

Turns out I’ve been busy. 😅

Cowboy Bebop – Preview

Hey everyone, I have started the work on Cowboy Bebop. I’ve actually almost finished recording the audio – although I’m not entirely happy with the melodic line which could be cleaner, so I’ll redo it. The bass line really really 🤘🔥 though!

I just slapped this early draft onto the original Cowboy Bebop intro to get a feel for it because my intention is for the video to be like the original intro! Thought I’d share it here. The percussion is MIDI here, but I’ll record the final on-guitar percussion as part of the video shoot.
